Not Just Old Age: The Pneumonia That Affected Pope Francis’ Final Years

wikitree Views

Pope Francis has entered eternal rest.

Pope Francis passed away on Monday, according to an official announcement from the Vatican.

Pope Francis had just been released from a hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

On February 14, the Pope was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome because of lung inflammation. Having part of his lung removed in his youth made him susceptible to respiratory illnesses during the winter months.

The Pope had four episodes of breathing problems while in the hospital, but he recovered and was released.

Pneumonia is a condition in which an infection causes inflammation in the lungs. It can be fatal in severe cases, so extra attention is needed. Because its early symptoms are similar to those of a cold or the flu, pneumonia, which is primarily caused by viral or bacterial infections, is likely to go untreated. Prompt action is required because symptoms such as fever, chest pain, and difficulty breathing can worsen without proper treatment.

Older people and young children with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to pneumonia. Those with weakened immune systems are more likely to suffer from reduced lung function due to lung tissue damage, even though healthy adults may recover with only minor symptoms. As a result, influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations are advised for the elderly and patients with long-term illnesses to prevent pneumonia.

Pope Francis was elected as the 266th pontiff on March 13, 2013. He hails from Argentina and is the first Jesuit pope and the first pope from South America. Pope Francis has since gained international recognition for his leadership in church reform and work for the underprivileged. His ascension to the throne was viewed as a theological and geographic turning point within the Catholic Church, which had a strong conservative order.

He has been involved in a number of initiatives during his papacy, including the protection of immigrants and refugees, the enhancement of the response system for sexual offenses, and structural reform within the Vatican. In particular, he traveled the world and stressed solidarity with the marginalized and socially disadvantaged, even though he was an elderly pope. Because he sought a “church of the poor” and was concerned about the Vatican’s overbearing authoritarianism, he is regarded as having offered a new path for the Catholic Church through his life and teachings.
