(Illustration by Park Ji-young/The Korea Herald)]A man in his 30s has been arrested for raping his ex-girlfriend after she ended their relationship upon discovering he was wearing an ankle monitor due to a previous conviction.

The Cheongju District Prosecutors’ Office has indicted the suspect for raping the victim at his residence in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, around 3 a.m. on June 24.

The victim, who had been romantically involved with the suspect, decided to end the relationship after learning about the electronic monitoring device. The court had mandated the tracking device following the suspect’s conviction for robbery, for which he had served time in prison.

The suspect convinced the victim to meet him at his home for a final encounter. However, upon her arrival, he raped her.
He recorded the attack with a camera and threatened to distribute the footage if she reported the incident to law enforcement.
Despite the suspect’s attempts to prevent the victim from leaving his residence, she managed to escape while he was asleep, approximately four hours after the rape.
