Four Korean restaurants have made it onto Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list, often called the Academy Awards of the culinary world. This year, Singapore had the most restaurants selected. South Korea ranked fifth.

In the survey of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 announced by UK’s William Reed on the 26th, Mingles, a Korean restaurant in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, soared to 13th from its previous ranking of 28th. This is the highest rank among domestic restaurants. Mingles received high praise for its innovative blend of traditional Korean cuisine with contemporary techniques, resulting in a distinctive flavor profile.

Following Mingles, Seven Spoons debuted this year, claiming the 18th spot after being excluded from the top 50 last year. Onjium climbed two places from last year to secure the 21st position. Mosu, which had the highest rank among Korean restaurants last year at 15th, slipped to 41st this year.

SÉZANNE, a French restaurant in Tokyo, Japan, was at the top. Florilege, another Tokyo restaurant, came in second. Gaggan Anand, located in Bangkok, Thailand, followed in third place.

Singapore led the pack with nine restaurants making the list, followed by Thailand with eight entries.  Hong Kong and Japan also made it to the top ranks. After South Korea was in fifth place, the list included China, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Macau, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the UAE.

The “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” is an annual event that evaluates the level of restaurants across Asia. More than 300 restaurant chefs, food critics, media, and operators participated in assessing the year’s food trends.

Meanwhile, Nongshim caught attention by presenting “Han River Shin Ramen” to over 800 of the world’s top chefs, judges, and gastronomes, attending Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony.
