Truth About Cardiovascular Disease – Here’s What You Need to Know

inews24 Views

Cardiovascular disease poses a significant threat to the health of our heart, which serves as the pump supplying blood throughout our bodies.

EBS

One of the most frightening aspects of cardiovascular disease is that it is the leading cause of sudden death. If a heart vessel suddenly ruptures or becomes blocked, the heart muscle tissue or cells can die, leading to the risk of sudden death.

Typical cardiovascular diseases include angina and myocardial infarction. These conditions occur when cholesterol builds up in the heart vessels, causing them to narrow or become blocked. If this condition, known as atherosclerosis, worsens, the coronary artery becomes blocked, leading to diseases.

EBS

Among these, angina is accompanied by shortness of breath and chest pain. Initially, symptoms only appear during intense exercise or activity, but as the condition worsens, pain can be felt even during everyday activities. Ignoring such heart pain can lead to more severe narrowing of the vessels and potentially the development of a myocardial infarction.

A woman in her early 80s who sought help at a traditional medicine clinic for breathlessness and heart pain received acupuncture but reported no relief from the pain. Eventually, she went to a hospital and underwent a stent procedure two days after admission. Her diagnosis was angina.

A man in his early 50s experienced chest pain during exercise and felt a painful and heavy sensation in his chest while running at the gym. He ignored it, thinking it was due to gastroesophageal reflux disease. However, after enduring the pain and undergoing a detailed diagnosis, he was diagnosed with unstable angina. His blood vessels were narrowed and blocked for a long time, which made him ineligible for a stent procedure. Instead, he had a coronary artery bypass surgery where vessels were taken from his thigh and chest.

EBS

On the 12th of this month, at 9:55 PM, EBS’s Physician will air a new episode titled “Unclog the Blocked Heart Vessels!” The episode will feature a discussion with renowned cardiovascular disease specialists on the symptoms, risk factors, surgical methods, and treatments for myocardial infarction and angina. These specialists include Professor Kim Hyo Soo of Cardiology, Professor Choi Jae Woong of Cardiology, Professor Kim Won of Cardiovascular Medicine, and Professor Park Deok Woo of Cardiology.
