Why Travel Experts Say Middle Seat is the Best Spot on the Plane

Recently, travel experts have highlighted why passengers should sit in the middle seat on a plane, sparking a conversation.

Based on interviews with travel experts, the British media outlet The Sun reported on May 12 why passengers should sit in the middle seat on a plane. In an interview, Kyle Burke, a computer science professor in Central Florida, said that sitting in the middle seat of an aircraft can provide a more comfortable experience. He pointed out that if you sit in an edge seat, you might have to adjust the window shade and may bump into people passing by in the aisle.

Current flight attendants also recommend sitting in the middle seat on the plane. They mainly argued that you should sit in the middle seat if you’re a tall passenger. They said, “If you sit in the middle seat, you can use both armrests,” and “If your legs are long and touch the front seat, you can support yourself with both arms and reduce the weight.”

Jacob Wedderburn-Day, CEO of the British travel agency Stasher, noted that passengers who select the middle seat on a plane are more likely to be offered a free upgrade. He explained that the middle seat is typically less popular among travelers, and many airlines provide free seat upgrades to passengers who have booked these seats.

Similarly, Virgin Australia, an Australian airline, gained popularity by hosting a lottery event for passengers sitting in the middle seat. Any passenger who boards a Virgin Australia flight and sits in the middle seat can participate in this event until April next year.
