Thailand is set to make a splash in the tourism industry with a major new project. Travel and Tour World reports that the country plans to invest around 12.1 billion baht (about $350 million) in a new cruise terminal on Koh Samui.

Construction of the cruise terminal is set to begin in 2029 and is expected to be completed by 2032. The Thai government projects that this new terminal will accommodate 120 cruise ships and attract at least 180,000 tourists annually.

Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Manaporn Charoensri, explained that the cruise terminal is being developed to promote tourism in Surat Thani Province. Enhancing transportation infrastructure will further increase tourist arrivals.

Koh Samui, Thailand’s third-largest island, is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and is often dubbed Thailand’s hidden paradise. It’s a favorite destination among Koreans for honeymoons and vacations.

Thailand has recently introduced several initiatives to boost tourism. In July, the government relaxed rules to allow alcohol sales at six international airports during five major Buddhist holidays. Earlier in January, taxes on alcohol and entertainment venues were also reduced to attract more visitors.
