Want to Sleep in a Real Horror Movie House? The Poltergeist Home Is Up for Grabs

Daniel Kim Views

The iconic house from the classic horror film Poltergeist has been listed on Airbnb, drawing major attention from movie fans.

Rotten Tomatoes

According to the New York Post, the home in Simi Valley, California, was built in 1979 and gained fame for its role in the supernatural thriller. The movie tells the story of a family haunted by eerie occurrences in their seemingly ordinary home. It became a box-office hit, earning about $76 million worldwide, and won a British Academy Award.

Listed for sale in August 2024, the Poltergeist house sold for $1.28 million in early October, as real estate site Zillow reported. The new owner has ambitious plans to restore the home to its on-screen appearance, aiming to recreate the exact set from the film. Once the transformation is complete, the property will be available for Airbnb stays, likely starting next year.

The film’s popularity has led to many inquiries about booking the Poltergeist house. The homeowner mentioned that time is needed to replicate the Freeling family house from Poltergeist perfectly and said visitors could potentially start staying there as early as next year.

The house offers several attractions beyond its history as a filming location. Guests can enjoy indoor bathrooms, a large closet, four bedrooms, and a backyard that spans approximately 1,480 square meters. The backyard also features a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, promising a delightful experience for future guests.
