A review paper has just been published that dishes out the scoop on essential nutrients that could be a saving grace for IBD patients.

A review paper in Nutrients lists the key Mediterranean diet nutrients that may benefit people with IBD.

IBD is a chronic gut-wrenching condition that primarily shows up as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. The Mediterranean diet is a representative diet that can provide health benefits and is a major diet recommended for IBD patients.

The research squad pointed out that your gut microbiome could cause IBD. Tweaking your diet could be the secret to keeping those gut bugs in check for IBD patients.

The Mediterranean diet is all about loading up on fiber, fruits, and veggies while minimalizing intake of ultra-processed foods. By nutrients, the research team examined the beneficial elements for people with IBD.

They found that fructooligosaccharides can work wonders for Crohn’s disease patients by beefing up their intestinal walls and boosting the good bacteria.

Moreover, Chitosan and pectin polysaccharides were praised for their gut-loving properties. However, some fibers might affect IBD patients more negatively.

The team explained how plant-based proteins could be secret inflammation fighters. Nuts and seeds got a gold star for kicking inflammatory bacteria to the curb and jazzing up bacterial diversity.

According to experts, the Mediterranean diet is known to help patients with intestinal microbiome diseases, but it is significant because nutrients break it down.
