Son Heung Min Isolated as Tottenham Struggles to Create Offensive Opportunities

wikitree Views

It has become apparent that the defensive issues Tottenham Hotspur FC is facing extend beyond simple set-piece problems.

News1

In their recent match against Liverpool, which Tottenham lost 2-4, no goals were conceded from set-pieces, but other serious weaknesses were exposed throughout the game.

Particularly this season, Tottenham quickly surrenders the ball from the back, often leading to goals.

Son Heung Min has also raised his voice about this issue, but Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, insists that the team improve their build-up and overall game management rather than set pieces.

Indeed, Tottenham’s weaknesses in the match against Liverpool were not in set-piece defense but in significant defensive gaps on the left and regaining possession in the opponent’s half.

This suggests that there are more significant problems with Tottenham’s overall play.

As Ange Postecoglou pointed out, Tottenham’s inability to relieve pressure from the back has resulted in the team failing to create proper attacking opportunities and attackers like Son Heung Min being isolated.

This build-up issue is a significant reason Tottenham is vulnerable to high pressure, offering the opposing team opportunities for quick counterattacks.

These problems for Tottenham are fundamental and challenging to solve in the short term; the coach and players must work together to find a solution. If improvements are not made in the team’s overall build-up process, the problem of Son Heung Min’s isolation is also unlikely to be resolved in the short term.
