Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son, Charlie Woods, is following in his father’s footsteps by challenging for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

On June 20, Charlie recorded a one-under-par 71 in the preliminary round of the tournament held at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Florida, USA, and rose to the top overall. As a result, he secured a place in the main competition, which is given to the top four. This is Charlie’s first time participating in a tournament organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA).

Charlie struggled with double and bogey in the first two holes of the day, but he recovered to play under par for the remainder of the round.

After the game, he said, “I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played good for the last 16. holes. I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles, and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them.” The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship is a prestigious amateur tournament that began in 1948.

This year, it will be held from July 22 to 28 at Oakland Hills in Detroit, with 264 participants. The top 64 will be determined through a 36-hole stroke play, and the winner will be decided through a one-on-one match play.

Charlie’s father, Tiger Woods, is the only player to have won this championship three consecutive times.

He first won the tournament in 1991 at 16 and continued to dominate in 1992 and 1993.

In addition to Tiger Woods, current stars of the American Professional Golf (PGA) Tour, like Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, and Will Zalatoris, have also emerged as winners of this tournament.

Last year, the champion was Korean-American Brian Kim.
