MLB’s Big Debate: Ohtani’s Historic 50-50 Quest vs. Judge’s Home Run Record

This year’s Major League Baseball (MLB) season is drawing intense interest due to the remarkable performances of Ohtani Shohei and Aaron Judge.

On Sunday, MLB.com conducted an internal survey asking, “Which superstar is having the more historic season?”

The results favored Ohtani, who got five out of nine votes.

Ohtani aims to be the first member of MLB’s 50-home run and 50-stolen base club. He has recorded 45 home runs and 46 stolen bases and needs only five more home runs and four more stolen bases to achieve this record.

Ohtani was the first Asian player to join the 40-40 club, achieving this in the fewest games possible, which adds significant historical importance to his accomplishments. Despite the pressure, he continues to excel in both pitching and batting.

Notably, after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, Ohtani focused solely on hitting and made headlines by signing with the Dodgers for a record-breaking 10 years and $700 million, raising expectations even higher.

Meanwhile, Judge is also having a historic season. With 51 home runs so far, he aims to break his own American League (AL) record of 62 home runs, set in 2022.

This year marks Judge’s third time reaching the 50-home run milestone, ranking him fifth in this category. He also leads the major leagues in RBIs, walks, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage and is rated as one of the best right-handed batters ever based on weighted runs created plus (wRC+).

Judge’s wRC+ of 215 is the highest among right-handed batters, and his over 500 plate appearances in a season since 1871 highlight his exceptional offensive performance.
