Aaron Judge’s Historic Home Run Streak: On the Brink of MLB’s Elite 60-HR Club

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees has begun his final push toward reaching 60 home runs this season. On September 26, Judge started as the third batter and center fielder in a home game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium during the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, hitting his 57th home run.

In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and runners on first and third, Judge faced a full count and connected with a sweeping pitch from right-handed pitcher Matt Bowman, launching a three-run homer to center field. This marks Judge’s fourth consecutive game with a home run, leaving him just three shy of the 60-home run milestone.

Judge had gone 16 games without a home run since August 27, briefly allowing Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers to close the gap to just one home run. However, as the season ends, Judge has resumed his home run streak, widening the gap again and solidifying his position as the home run leader. In 2022, Judge hit 62 home runs, setting the American League (AL) single-season home run record.

Only two players in MLB history have hit 60 or more home runs in more than one season: Sammy Sosa (1998, 1999, 2001) and Mark McGwire (1998, 1999). Despite Judge’s home run, the Yankees lost the game 7-9, with four games remaining in the regular season.
