French football star Kylian Mbappé has become the subject of an investigation by local authorities in Sweden over allegations of sexual assault.
According to French media outlet Le Figaro and Swedish media Expressen on Tuesday, Mbappé, who recently visited Sweden, has been accused of rape and sexual assault.
On the evening of October 10, Mbappé had dinner with his companions at a local French restaurant and then visited a nightclub before returning to his hotel.
It has been reported that the woman who filed the complaint alleged that the incident occurred at a hotel in Stockholm where Mbappé was staying sometime between the night of October 10 and the early hours of October 11.
Following the incident, on October 11, she sought medical attention at a hospital in Stockholm, where doctors diagnosed her with resulting from the assault she allegedly suffered. The next day, on October 12, she went to the police station to file her complaint.
Upon receiving the complaint, local police, under the direction of prosecutors, visited the hotel where Mbappé was staying on October 14 to collect relevant evidence, including CCTV footage.
However, on the afternoon of October 14, Mbappé denied the allegations on X, calling them fake news and suggesting that his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), which was involved in a wage dispute with him, had fabricated the rumors.
This summer, Mbappé transferred to Real Madrid in Spain and is in a dispute with PSG over unpaid wages totaling 55 million euros ($59 million).
In response to Mbappé’s claims, PSG firmly rejected the notion that they had fabricated the sexual assault allegations. The club called it “disgraceful” to be implicated in such a serious matter, emphasizing that they would refrain from making further comments. PSG added that they would maintain their dignity throughout the situation and had “no time to waste on such gossip,” distancing themselves from the rumors amidst their ongoing legal dispute with Mbappé over unpaid wages.
