Freddie Freeman, who led the Dodgers to their World Series victory, set another remarkable record. His walk-off grand slam during the 2024 World Series became the third most expensive baseball ever sold. On Monday, AFP reported that Freeman’s grand slam ball fetched $1.56 million at an SPC auction. Freeman hit the dramatic grand slam in the 10th inning with two outs and the Dodgers trailing 2-3, leading to a stunning 6-3 victory. This marked the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history.

The Dodgers, riding the momentum from their comeback win in Game 1, claimed the World Series championship with a 4-1 series victory, and Freeman earned the title of Most Valuable Player.

Only two baseballs have sold for more than Freeman’s grand slam ball in Major League history. Shohei Ohtani, who became the first player this season to achieve both 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases, saw his 50th home run ball sell for $4.932 million at an auction in October, setting a new record. The previous record holder was Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball from the 1999 season, sold for $3 million.
