Nissan announced plans to release a model equipped with its independent hybrid technology, “e-Power,” in the U.S. after the second half of 2026 during a dealer conference held in the U.S. on August 23, 2023. They also added that they will adopt the e-Power technology in the SUV, which will be improved and released in the second half of 2026. This technology has already been introduced in Japan, Asia, and Mexico, but it will be the first time in the U.S.
E-Power is a technology that uses an electric motor for driving and only uses the engine for power generation. It offers acceleration and stability similar to that of a battery electric vehicle while eliminating concerns about range due to its use of gasoline. It was first adopted in the compact car Note, launched in 2016, and has mainly been used in models for the Japanese market.
Nissan plans to introduce a total of 27 electric vehicle models, including 19 battery electric vehicles, by 2030. They expect the U.S. sales volume in 2023 to increase by 30% compared to the previous year.
Nissan aims to make battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles, including e-Power, the two pillars of its electrification strategy, to achieve 55% electrification of new cars worldwide by 2030.
