Ford’s BlueCruise Arrives in Germany: Hands-Free Driving Now a Reality

globalautonews Views

Ford has announced that the BlueCruise system can now be used in Germany, following its introduction in the United States. German Ford car users will be able to enjoy the benefits of hands-free driving on specific roads. Ford has launched its first model equipped with the BlueCruise system, which features Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities, the Mustang Mach-E.

Ford has announced that it has received approval from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) to use the BlueCruise technology. Soon, German drivers can take their hands off the steering wheel on specific road sections, known as Blue Zones, while still paying attention to the road.

With this, BlueCruise now offers hands-free and semi-autonomous driving in Germany, following BMW and Mercedes-Benz. BMW’s Level 2+ ADAS received approval from the KBA in June, and Mercedes-Benz’s Drive Pilot introduced Level 3 driving (hands-off, eyes-off) for EQS drivers in Germany starting May 2022.

BlueCruise has provided over 180 million miles of driving support to Ford owners in the United States and Canada. In January, it was named the top ADAS by Consumer Reports, surpassing competitors such as GM and Tesla. After the UK, Germany became the second region outside North America to have BlueCruise.

Ford’s BlueCruise system is set to be launched in Germany with the upcoming release of the Mustang Mach-E in the next few weeks.

Ford operates a local subsidiary in Cologne, Germany, employing around 20,000 people across three locations nationwide. However, in terms of electric vehicles, they are just starting out.
