Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai Surpasses 2 Million Units in Cumulative Production

globalautonews Views

Tesla announced on September 6, 2023, that the cumulative production at Gigafactory Shanghai had surpassed 2 million units. Gigafactory Shanghai, Tesla’s first factory outside of the United States, began production in December 2019 after groundbreaking in January of the same year.

Gigafactory Shanghai produced 1 million units in just 30 months and surpassed 2 million units in less than 13 months. Senior Director of Production at Gigafactory Shanghai, Song Kang, stated, “The increase in Tesla’s production speed is closely related to the excellent business environment in Shanghai, especially to the Lin-gang Special Area of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.”

In the first 8 months of this year, Gigafactory Shanghai has delivered more than 600,000 units, surpassing the total number achieved in 2021.
