Jeep’s Shocking News: Wrangler and Grand Cherokee Go Electric

globalautonews Views

Stellantis has announced plans to release electric versions of the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee within a few years. Through a temporary labor agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW), Stellantis has revealed plans to invest $19 billion by April 2028 in battery factories, facility upgrades, electric vehicle (EV) education, and new EV development. Additionally, it plans to invest $9.4 billion to construct three new battery factories for EVs, two in Kokomo, Indiana, and one at the Belvidere assembly plant in Illinois.

The agreement also includes expanding EV production at existing factories as the automotive industry transitions to the electric industry.

Stellantis is already set to launch its first EVs in the U.S. market next year, including the Jeep Avenger EV (pictured above), along with the Giri Recon and Wrangler S. It also plans to launch the Grand Cherokee EV in 2027.

In 2027, Jeep also plans to release electric versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee based on the STLA platform. Other brands, including Dodge and Ram, plan to launch electric vehicles within a few years. Ram will launch its first EV, the Ram 1500 REV, next year. Dodge intends to unveil the EV version of the muscle car, the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT EV, next year. The Durango EV will also be produced at the Detroit factory starting in 2026.
