With just a week left until the presidential elections, Russia has warned the U.S. Ambassador not to “attempt interfering in its domestic affairs.”

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, on the 7th (local time), and said that “Any attempts to interfere in the domestic affairs in Russia, including spreading false information about the election and ‘special military operations,’ will be harshly and firmly suppressed.”

They emphasized that they could go as far as to designate the U.S. embassy staff involved in such actions as persona non grata and deport them.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also notified Ambassador Tracy that three non-governmental American organizations, including the Institute of International Education (IIE), have been designated as “undesirable” organizations as they are recruiting “influential agents” whilst operating anti-Russian programs with the support of the U.S. Embassy.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that they delivered a formal letter warning, stating, “If you do not stop promoting these organizations, it will be considered a violation of the Russian law.” They have also requested that anti-Russian programs of these organizations be removed from the U.S. Embassy’s website and social media.

Russia, with its presidential election coming up on the 15th to 17th, continues to warn that the West is attempting to interfere in the election.
