The Korean Central News Agency reported on the 27th of last month that a North Korean Youth Delegation led by Moon Chul, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League of North Korea (in the middle), had left Pyongyang to participate in the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia.

The Rodong Sinmun, the North Korean Workers’ Party newspaper, announced on the 17th that the North Korean and Russian youth delegations met in Moscow, Russia, on the 11th.

The newspaper reported that day, “They expressed their positions to strengthen friendship and solidarity between the two countries’ youth organizations and promote multi-faceted exchanges and cooperation.”

The meeting was attended by various Russian youth organizations, including the Russian Communist Youth League and the Rural Youth League, along with the North Korean youth delegation led by Moon Chul, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League of North Korea.

The newspaper explained, “The representatives of various Russian youth organizations highly praised the development of our homeland, which is embracing epoch-making transformations under the sophisticated guidance of the respected General Secretary.”

It added, “They praised North Korean youths for holding high the banner of the Juche idea and shining their youth on the path to defending the country’s sovereignty and prosperity. They emphasized that Russian youths would be with North Korean youths in the struggle to realize international justice.”

The participants are known to have watched an art performance by Russian university students.

North Korea and Russia appear to be increasing their cooperation following the summit last September between Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.

On the 14th, it was reported that the North Korean embassy in Russia hosted a banquet to celebrate the 75th anniversary of signing the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between North Korea and Russia. The banquet was attended by government and party officials who were invited by the embassy.
