A fire broke out at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey, on the afternoon of the 2nd (local time), resulting in 15 deaths and over ten injuries.

According to local media, including the state-run TRT Haber, the fire that started at a remodeling construction site on the first floor of a 16-story building in the Beşiktaş Gayrettepe area of Istanbul on that day spread to the club’s first and second basement floors.

Authorities deployed 31 fire trucks and 86 firefighters to suppress the fire quickly, but there were many casualties.

Video footage and photos from the scene show a narrow entrance next to a neighboring building blackened by smoke.

The underground club has operated for nearly 40 years since it was first licensed in 1987.
