The ceasefire negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas in the Gaza Strip are seen as moving smoothly. Egypt, the mediator of their talks, is in a welcoming mood.

According to AFP and other sources, on the 29th (local time), the negotiation delegations of both sides announced that they would soon return with an answer to the ceasefire negotiation proposal, leaving Egypt, the mediator country.

The United States, Egypt, Qatar, and other mediators have been trying to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and recently, negotiations took place in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

A senior Hamas official told AFP about the ceasefire proposal, “There is no big problem,” adding, “The atmosphere is positive if there are no new obstacles in Israel.”

Although the details of the negotiations have not been disclosed, it is analyzed that Israel’s hardline stance has been softened.

Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, participated in the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the day and said, “Hamas is making a generous offer to Israel.”

He then added, “The only thing standing between the people of the Gaza Strip and a ceasefire is Hamas,” and “We hope they make the right decision.”

Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, also said at the WEF, “This negotiation has taken into account the positions of both sides,” and “We are hopeful.”
