Caught on Camera: Brutal Assault on Karaoke Owner Sparks Outrage

inews24 Views

A karaoke bar owner claimed that an employment agency owner brutally assaulted her because she didn’t hire a “helper lady.” The story has come to light.

JTBC Case Master

An investigative report by JTBC’s Case Master revealed that a naturalized citizen from China in her 40s was physically assaulted by the perpetrator, who was in his 50s and operating an employment agency in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, back in October of last year.

The video footage of the incident shows a large male perpetrator approaching the female business owner on the street and striking her face and head. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, he also grabbed and dragged the woman by her hair after she fell to the ground.

The victim stated, “At the time of the incident, the perpetrator called me and suddenly started swearing at me, saying things like “I’ll kill you” and “I’ll shut you down.” I didn’t know why, so I went to him and found him badmouthing me. When I tried to clear up the misunderstanding, he assaulted me out of the blue.”

She also revealed that the conflict started when she opened a karaoke bar three years ago. The perpetrator continuously pressured the victim to hire “employment agency ladies,” saying, “You need to hire ladies to make money.” When she refused, the perpetrator started to badmouth her to others, pushing her to conduct illegal business.

The victim, who argued with the perpetrator and his wife a week before the assault, said, “A week before the assault, I caught him trying to steal my customers, so I confronted his wife. She said it was her wish, and we had an argument, which seems to have led to the assault.”

It is reported that the perpetrator has recently been sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspension for this incident. The victim explained that “the fact that he posted a bail of 6 million won ($5,300) worked as a factor for his reduced sentence.”

She expressed frustration at the perpetrator’s sentence, saying, “It’s so unfair that I didn’t even get an apology, let alone a proper punishment.”

Meanwhile, the perpetrator said in a JTBC interview, “I am thinking of apologizing, but I am looking for a way because I am told there would be problems, such as threats, if I go to her.” However, he also showed an attitude of asking to be reported from the perspective of a Korean citizen, saying, “Since when has a Korean person grabbing a Chinese person’s hair been newsworthy?”
