Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced last Tuesday that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit is a major diplomatic issue for Serbia and a significant event that all Serbian citizens should celebrate.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic meets with the visiting President of Xinhua News Agency, Fu Hua, in Belgrade, Serbia, on April 30, 2024.

Vucic expressed his belief that President Xi’s visit will bring new hope to Serbia’s development, saying, “I am very much looking forward to President Xi’s visit.”

President Vucic made these remarks during a meeting with Fu Hua, the president of the Xinhua News Agency, in Belgrade.

Vucic stated that China is Serbia’s reliable friend, and the interactions between the two countries are very frank and open. He added that Serbia would never forget the Chinese people’s help, and he hoped President Xi would feel the warmth and friendliness of the Serbian people during his visit.

The Serbian president highly praised the contributions of the HBIS Serbia Iron & Steel Plant in Smederevo to Serbia’s economic development, China’s assistance to Serbia in the medical and health sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic, and China’s support for Serbia at international multilateral events.

President Vucic emphasized that Serbia firmly supports China’s positions on its core interests and key issues.

Regarding the Taiwan issue, he expressed full support for the “One China” principle and the preservation of China’s sovereignty and territory.

Regarding media exchanges, President Vucic positively evaluated the cooperation between the Xinhua News Agency and Serbia’s Tanjug News Agency, among other media outlets. He emphasized that through these exchanges, Serbian media can learn from Chinese media experiences. Serbian citizens can better understand China, promoting mutual understanding and knowledge sharing between the two countries.

President Fu stated that under President Xi’s and President Vucic’s strategic guidance, China-Serbia relations have thrived despite international political changes. He said this relationship has become an excellent example of friendly relations between China and European countries. He also expressed his expectation that the meeting between the two leaders would draw a new blueprint for China-Serbia exchanges and cooperation, further shining the “unbreakable friendship” of the two countries in the new era.

President Fu also said that Xinhua is ready to work with the Serbian side to strengthen exchanges and cooperation further, better convey the friendly relations between China and Serbia through high-quality, multi-dimensional news reports and think tank research, and comprehensively show the bright prospects of the two countries’ relations in the new era.

He added that Xinhua will actively play the role of envoy for China-Serbia friendly relations and create a positive public opinion to strengthen cooperation in various fields between the two countries and better benefit the people of both countries.
