Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, early Thursday after visiting North Korea. His arrival was delayed from the originally scheduled night of the 19th, turning what was planned as a two-day visit to Vietnam into just a day trip.

Putin’s private jet landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Vietnam, around 1:45 am on the same day. He was initially expected to arrive in Vietnam late on the 19th and be welcomed by the Vietnamese delegation at the airport around midnight on the 20th, but he was nearly two hours late. His late on the North Korea visit, which was scheduled for the evening of the 18th but ended up being in the early hours of the 19th, caused his late arrival in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and top party diplomat Le Hoai Trung welcomed Putin at the airport. After exchanging pleasantries and handshakes with them, Putin immediately got into his car and arrived at a hotel in downtown Hanoi after about a 40-minute drive.

Putin will start his official schedule by attending a welcoming event with Vietnamese President To Lam from noon on the same day, followed by a meeting after the guard of honor. He will then meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Nguyen Phu Trong, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and pay tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Memorial to the Revolutionary Martyrs. He is also scheduled to meet with Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, and the Association of Russian Students. After dinner, Putin will head straight to the airport, wrapping up his day-trip schedule.
