U.S. Sends Message: Massive Deportation of Chinese National

Daniel Kim Views

For the first time in six years, the United States has deported a large number of illegal immigrants from China.

On the 2nd, political news outlet The Hill reported that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a large-scale deportation operation. Over the weekend, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a chartered flight to deport Chinese nationals, which was the first time such operation was held since 2018.

The DHS stated that the deportation was carried out in close cooperation with the Chinese National Immigration Agency, and additional deportation flights are planned.

A total of 116 Chinese illegal immigrants were deported. Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, stated, “We will continue to enforce immigration laws and deport individuals who have no legal basis to stay in the United States. People should not believe the lies of smugglers.”

Previously, the White House issued an executive order to close the border and suspend refugee protection if the number of illegal immigrants exceeded an average of 2,500 per day. This measure was taken in response to the peak dissatisfaction of American voters regarding illegal immigrants ahead of the November presidential election.

Since President Biden’s order, the DHS has operated over 120 repatriation flights to more than 20 countries, including China. The average number of border patrol encounters has decreased by more than 40% over seven days.
