On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had discovered $500 million in cash and gold in a Hezbollah bunker beneath a hospital in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

According to the Israeli media outlet The Times of Israel (TOI), IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari (Major General) stated in a press briefing that they had found one of the bunkers belonging to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah beneath the Sahel Hospital in Beirut. He also revealed a 3D image of the bunker.

Hagari emphasized that the $500 million found could have been used to aid Lebanon’s reconstruction but instead had been funneled into Hezbollah’s rebuilding efforts. He stated that Israeli Air Force aircraft were monitoring the site and vowed continued surveillance.

The IDF spokesperson called on the people of Lebanon, its government, and international organizations to ensure that Hezbollah is prevented from storing terrorist funds in civilian facilities like hospitals in the future. He also urged the Lebanese government to seize the funds discovered in the bunker.

Hagari also issued a warning to residents of Dahieh, a suburb in southern Beirut, advising them to evacuate the area, as airstrikes were imminent. According to reports from The Guardian, loud explosions were heard across Beirut shortly after the airstrikes began.

In response, Dr. Fadi Alame, the director of Sahel Hospital, denied the Israeli military’s claims, stating that they were not true. He also mentioned that the hospital had been ordered to evacuate after the Israeli military’s announcement.
