Reports emerged on Sunday that Russia had occupied additional areas in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

According to the Anadolu Agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Novotroiskoye, a village located 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southwest of the key operational front in Pokrovsk.

Fighting has continued since the night before at the major frontlines of eastern, southern, and northern Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukraine lost over 1,400 troops, along with tanks, armored personnel carriers, and electronic warfare equipment during the clashes.

Russia has claimed in recent months to be making advances around Pokrovsk, where fighting has intensified in the Donetsk region. Pokrovsk borders Ukraine and serves as a logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.

The Ukrainian military is conducting drone strikes aimed at the Russian mainland in response.

The Russian military claims to have captured 189 Ukrainian villages as of December 17.
