Gradually shuts down from May 6
News of Sephora’s withdrawal is being met with regret.
On the 19th, Sephora Korea announced its withdrawal through its official Instagram and online mall.
Sephora stated, “With a heavy heart, we have decided to close our operation in Korea” and revealed that they will gradually shut down their online mall, mobile app store, and offline stores starting May 6, 2024.
However, they announced that “Sephora will continue to be available at the 10 regional stores and online malls in Asia”.
Sephora, a cosmetic select shop owned by the French luxury brand LVMH, had garnered much anticipation even before its entry into Korea.
Ultimately, they entered the Korean market in October 2019 and opened their first store at the COEX Parnas Mall.
They were warmly welcomed as customers could purchase products on the spot, which they had previously had to wait about two weeks to receive through overseas direct purchasing. On the day of the first store’s opening, they boasted an immeasurably long waiting line of customers.
However, they eventually withdrew from the Myeongdong store and the IFC Mall store in Yeouido and ultimately announced their withdrawal from the Korean market in March 2024.
