North Expands Secret Uranium Enrichment Facility in Kangson near Pyongyang

North Korea is suspected of expanding a secret uranium enrichment facility located in the Kangson area near Pyongyang.

NK News, a U.S. media outlet specializing in North Korea, reported on the 27th, “After analyzing satellite images of the main building of a site in Kangson, we captured images of workers conducting construction at the back of the building since last month.”

The international community, including the U.S., believes that North Korea is operating a uranium enrichment centrifuge in the Kangson area, not even 5.6 miles (9 km) away from Pyongyang.

Meanwhile, a researcher at the Stimson Center who served as the Deputy Director General of the IAEA argued in an article contributed to the U.S. North Korea-specialized media 38 North, “There is a high possibility that Kangson is not a uranium enrichment facility, but a factory for manufacturing parts necessary for uranium enrichment.”
