Kim Jong Il’s Death Anniversary Sparks Global Tributes: Inside North Korea’s Mourning Rituals

North Korea is fostering an atmosphere of mourning ahead of the anniversary of National Defense Commission Chairman Kim Jong Il’s death on December 17.

On Sunday, Rodong Sinmun reported, “Ahead of Chairman Kim Jong Il’s memorial day, numerous visitors are coming to the Revolutionary Comradeship Hall at the Korean Revolution Museum.”

It added, “Through the deeply moving exhibits displayed here, visitors are once again ardently embracing the sublime world of comradely love for our Great General, Kim Jong Il.”

Meanwhile, the newspaper reported, “In commemoration of the 13th anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il’s death, memorial meetings, achievement seminars, lectures, discussions, book and photo exhibitions, and film screenings were held from November 21 to December 8 in countries such as Myanmar, Iran, Kuwait, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Tanzania.”
