PepsiCo Faces Allegations of Unfair Labor Practices from Teamsters Unions

Daniel Kim Views

Teamsters unions in three U.S. states have filed a complaint against PepsiCo.

On the 19th (local time), the Teamsters union reported to the National Labor Relations Board that they had accused PepsiCo of unfair labor practices.

According to the union, local workers from five Teamsters in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa accused PepsiCo of unfair labor practices by setting work rules that prevented them from discussing wages, hours, or other terms and conditions of employment.

In response, PepsiCo issued a statement refuting the allegations, saying, “We have been negotiating in good faith with Teamsters across Illinois and Indiana to reach mutually agreeable collective bargaining agreements” and “We have not engaged in unfair labor practices.”

On the other hand, unions have made a comeback after decades of decline, with some unions, including Trucksters, winning significant new contracts.

Labor organizations emerged as a significant issue amidst the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Teamsters leaders also met with U.S. President Joe Biden last month, just a few weeks after Republican rival Donald Trump met with the union to seek their support.
