Boeing’s Runway Drama: Plane Lands Without Front Landing Gear

Daniel Kim Views

Boeing has now revealed an issue with the landing gear of its cargo planes.

The Turkish Ministry of Transportation announced on the 8th (local time) that a Boeing cargo plane from FedEx Corporation landed at Istanbul Airport without its front landing gear and remained on the tarmac, but no one was injured.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Boeing 767 aircraft, which was flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, landed under the guidance of traffic control towers at Istanbul Airport after reporting that its landing gear would not open.

The Ministry of Transportation stated that the airport rescue and firefighting teams had completed the necessary preparations on the runway before the landing and that there were no injuries, but did not mention the cause of the malfunction.

In contrast, video footage obtained by Reuters showed the front end of the plane scraping along the runway before being soaked in firefighting foam, sparks flying, and smoke billowing.

IGA, the operator of the Turkish airport, stated that the runway where the cargo plane landed was temporarily closed to air traffic, but other runways at the airport were operating without interruption.
