Fisker Faces Recall Crisis: 18,000+ Electric Vehicles Across North America and Europe Pulled for Safety Fixes

Daniel Kim Views

On the 12th, Fisker announced that it recalled more than 18,000 vehicles across North America and Europe, citing software defects and non-compliance with safety standards.

According to the statement, Fisker voluntarily recalls 11,201 Fisker Ocean vehicles in the United States, Canada, and Europe to address software issues.

The recall aims to fix a software issue that could trigger the vehicle to enter safety status protection mode.

Additionally, Fisker disclosed plans to recall 6,864 Fisker Ocean vehicles in the United States and 281 vehicles in Canada due to non-compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) regarding the gauge and telltale icons on the cluster display.

Fisker plans to resolve the issue by updating the Ocean OS vehicle software wirelessly by June 30. It clarified that vehicles already updated to the latest software version will be excluded from the recall.

Meanwhile, the Ocean SUV, currently the only vehicle Fisker is producing, is under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) following four accidents related to safety.

According to the NHTSA announcement, an investigation is underway into complaints regarding the automatic emergency braking system activating carelessly last month.

On the other hand, Fisker’s Austria business division filed for bankruptcy protection despite looking for investment opportunities. Potential investment negotiations with major automakers fell through in May due to financial difficulties.
