Snap to Offer Full-Body AR Experiences with New Tech Innovations

Daniel Kim Views

Snapchat launched the latest version of its generative AI technology on the 18th. This technology allows Snapchat to create more realistic special effects when taking shots with a phone camera, helping it stay ahead of social media competitors.

As a pioneer in the augmented reality (AR) field, Snapchat, which overlays computerized effects on real-world photos or videos, also announced an upgraded version of its developer program, Lens Studio.

This allows artists and developers to create AR features for Snapchat and other websites and apps.

Bobby Murphy, Snap’s chief technology officer, said the enhanced Lens Studio will reduce the time it takes to create AR effects from weeks to hours and generate more complex tasks.

“What’s fun for us is that these tools both stretch the creative space in which people can work, but they’re also easy to use so that newcomers can build something unique very quickly,” he added.

According to Snapchat’s statement, users will be able to use advanced AR special effects, called lenses, within the next few months.

Lens Studio now includes generative AI tools, including an AI assistant to answer questions if developers need assistance.

Another tool allows artists to automatically generate 3D images that can be used in AR lenses, eliminating the need to develop 3D models from scratch.

Additionally, Snapchat announced plans to create full-body AR experiences, not just faces, such as generating new outfits that are currently very difficult to create.
