Honda’s New Amaze Sedan Drops in 2025—But Does It Live Up to the Hype?

Significant Changes Despite Expectations

Honda has unveiled the third-generation Amaze for the Indian market. The model, which will compete against the Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor, uses the same platform as its predecessor but features a major overhaul on the outside and inside.

However, the teaser sketch that had garnered much anticipation was disappointing. Consumers who had expected a groundbreaking and unique design felt that the result was an ordinary evolution. In particular, there are some regrettable elements, such as the proportional issues typical of subcompact sedans and 15-inch wheels.

Refined Exterior Design
Falls Short of Teaser Expectations

Honda has given the third-generation Amaze a more refined LED headlight, a more prominent front grille, and smoked taillights inspired by the Honda City. These design changes are a clear improvement over its predecessor.

However, the vehicle’s overall proportions and design perfection are not enough to satisfy consumers’ expectations. The teaser’s eye-catching effect is somewhat diminished, and the differentiation from competing models is weak.

Interior Draws Inspiration from Elevate SUV
Blending Modernity with Practicality

Inside, the Amaze takes inspiration from Honda’s Indian SUV, the Elevate, with a modern and minimalist dashboard design. The steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and air conditioning controls are identical to those in the Elevate, while the 8-inch infotainment display provides some differentiation. Although the 416-liter trunk capacity has been slightly reduced compared to the previous model, it still offers more space than the Suzuki Dzire, contributing to the overall practicality of the interior.

Safety and Performance
Coupled with Competitive Pricing

Honda has made a big leap forward in safety. It has six standard airbags and Honda Sensing ADAS technology, which provides Level 2 self-driving capabilities. This technology is only available on the top ZX trim, but it is expected to be a big advantage over the competition. As for the powertrain, it consists of a single option of a 1.2-liter i-VTEC engine. It produces up to 89 horsepower and can be selected with an improved 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. However, it is unfortunate that the CNG option applied to the competition model is missing.

For Honda’s third-generation Amaze, prices start at around 940,000 yen (about $6,250), with the top-of-the-line ZX trim costing around 1.29 million yen (about $8,575). First deliveries are scheduled for January 2025, and Honda is looking to gain a more significant share of the Indian subcompact sedan market.
