GM Korea has made history in domestic passenger car exports, surpassing Hyundai and Kia.

Chevrolet emerged as a strong exporter, outpacing Hyundai’s Avante (2nd), Kona (3rd), and Tucson (5th), as well as Kia’s Sportage (6th), Seltos (7th), and Morning (8th).

According to the Korea Automobile Mobility Industry Association (KAMA), the Automotive Industry Trends for December 2024 results show that Chevrolet’s Trax crossover and Trailblazer ranked first and fourth, respectively.

The entry-level Trax Crossover was the best-selling car in 2024, exporting 295,099 units. Achieving this milestone in less than two years after its launch in 2023 adds significant value to this accomplishment.

It recorded 33,587 units in December alone, an increase of 11.0% over the previous month and its highest monthly sales since launch.

Since the first shipment in March 2023, the Trax crossover has grown steadily, with cumulative overseas sales surpassing 510,000 units. The Trax has set a new benchmark in the crossover segment, earning acclaim in the global market for its stylish exterior design, spacious interior, sophisticated interior features, and excellent driving performance.

The Trailblazer has distinguished itself as a premium compact SUV, emphasizing its DNA as a “traditional SUV.” It boasts robust off-road capabilities, outstanding fundamental driving performance, and the versatility demanded by SUV buyers.

It offers superior premium convenience features compared to competitors, enhancing its premium image. With this comprehensive competitiveness, the Trailblazer continues to receive consistent love from global consumers.

This achievement reflects GM Korea’s global competitiveness and potential for future growth. Korea’s total automotive exports reached $70.8 billion in 2024, following $70.9 billion in 2023.

North America accounted for 56.5% of the exports, while the European Union comprised 11.4%. This demonstrated strong competitiveness in major developed markets, and GM Korea is preparing a more aggressive future strategy based on this success.

They plan to secure a production capacity of nearly 500,000 units annually, strategically focusing on the most demanded models. This strategy aims to enhance sustainability in the Korean market while significantly strengthening the export competitiveness of the South Korean automotive industry.
