Disney+ prioritizes the Korean market, citing the strong performance of Korean content with global audiences.

Carol Choi, the Executive Vice President of Original Content Strategy for the Walt Disney Company’s Asia-Pacific region, emphasized the importance of the Korean market.

“Disney jumped into local production in the Asia-Pacific region in the second half of 2021, and it’s still in the early stages,” she shared. “Despite this, I’m pleased that there is positive feedback towards the Korean original content we have released thus far.”

Choi emphasized, “‘Moving’ ranked #1 among original content on Disney+ worldwide, and 9 out of the Top 15 most-watched shows globally, excluding North America, were Korean. This is an impressive achievement and an important data point for the future. It proves how globally expandable and high-quality Korean storytelling is, as it resonates with a global audience.”

She continued, “Disney+ secured growth momentum through unique storytelling and with the participation of Korea’s top actors. New original shows like “Uncle Samsik” and “Light Shop” will have a global impact on audiences.”

Choi discussed the content consumption patterns of Korean subscribers. “Korean consumers have high standards in choosing streaming content and prefer solid narratives and big-production projects.”

She said, “We are preparing content that can resonate with viewers worldwide. We are working on content centered on strong storytelling, high-quality productions, and recognizable actors. Creative excellence and a strong commitment to localized content will be at the core of Disney+.”

This year, Disney+ launched “A Shop for Kilers” and “The Impossible Heir” and plans to sequentially unveil Song Kang Ho’s first dramas, “Uncle Samsik,” “Blood Free,” “Red Swan,” “The Tyrant,” “Unmasked,” “Gangnam B-side,” and “Light Shop,” among others. The Zone: Survival Mission Season 3 will also be available on Disney+.
