Actor and a Father Opens Up About His Son’s Rare Disease and School Bullying

Actor Kwon Oh Jung shed tears as he mentioned his son suffering from a rare disease.

On the 18th, a video titled “What are you doing these days with my husband, Mr. Oh Jung? Ft. Restaurant Introduction” was posted on actress Shin Ae-ra’s YouTube channel Shinaelife.

In the released video, Kwon Oh Jung mentioned his son’s illness, which he had previously revealed on TV.

Kwon Oh Jung explained, “My son’s disease doesn’t have a name. They call it MICU1, but that’s not the name of the disease. It’s like a chromosome symbol. The 385th gene has a problem.”

He added, “Because there’s a problem with the mitochondria, especially in the legs. So, walking itself can’t produce energy.”

Kwon Oh Jung, who was sharing the hardships of raising his son, also conveyed the pain his son had personally experienced.

He revealed, “It was hard from elementary to middle school. He went to a regular school and was often ostracized. There was a lot of violence in middle school. Several people assaulted the child for a year.”

He continued, “At first, I thought my son was exaggerating, but then he came home with a neck injury. He broke a window by looking at it, and the glass got stuck in his neck. It was very dangerous. It was right where the carotid artery is…” he shed tears.

Kwon Oh Jung recalled, “I was a celebrity and endured it. I endured it even more because it would be worse if it got too big. As I endured it, my mouth twisted during the shooting. I regret that time so much.”

Meanwhile, Kwon Oh Jung married his wife, who is six years older, in 1996 and has one son.

It is known that Kwon Oh Jung’s son is suffering from a rare disease that only one person in Korea and 15 people worldwide have.
