On the 2nd of this month, fire trucks were dispatched with sirens wailing in the middle of New York, USA. They had received a call about a fire in a high-rise apartment. The caller was sure they saw a fire, but there was no fire.

Kieran Murray, who reported the fire, called 911 after seeing blazing flames from his window. He explained the situation, saying, “I zoomed in with my smartphone, and there was no doubt that there was a fire.”

The firefighters who responded to the call were disappointed when they arrived at the scene. What Murray saw was not an actual fire but a TV screen.

Ali Ryan, who lives in the apartment, said, “It was a rainy Saturday, and I had some work left, so I turned on a fire video on my laptop.” It was for a so-called ‘fire meme.’

However, Murray mistook the fire on Ryan’s TV for a real fire due to the TV’s sharp picture quality.

Upon hearing the news, netizens wondered, “What kind of TV is it that has such good picture quality that it can be mistaken for a real fire?” and were curious about the TV manufacturer.

After netizens’ research, it was revealed that this model was LG Electronics’ QNED TV.

LG Electronics

QNED is a liquid crystal display (LCD) based TV that combines quantum dot and nano cell technology. The backlight, which serves as a light source, is densely packed with LEDs measuring 100 to 200 micrometers (approximately 0.0039 to 0.0078 inches) in size, which has significantly improved color and picture quality compared to existing LCD TVs.

LG Electronics competes in the TV market with premium product lines such as LG QNED TV.

It was a hot topic when LG Electronics applied for the QNED trademark at home and abroad in 2020, one step ahead of its competitor, Samsung.
