BTS Jimin vs. Actress Ji-Min Park
Faces Backlash for Posting Wrong Photo

A U.S. entertainment outlet faced backlash after posting a photo of BTS member Jimin instead of actress Ji-Min Park.

According to AFP on the 16th (local time), American media outlet Deadline Hollywood published an article on X (former Twitter) about the Revelation event, where the French César Academy annually selects and announces 32 promising actors.

The actual list included French actress of Korean descent, Ji-Min Park, who gave an impressive performance in the 2022 film Return to Seoul, directed by Cambodian-French director Davy Chou.

However, Deadline Hollywood faced criticism for publishing a photo of BTS’s Jimin instead of actress Ji-Min Park in the article.

One BTS fan pointed out that despite listing Ji-Min Park as a female, they used a photo of a male Jimin.

People who saw this sent criticisms such as “Please correct the photo of Ji-Min Park in the article to the right person,” “This is a disrespectful act to both actress Ji-Min Park and singer Jimin,” and “It only takes a second to search for the cast of ‘Return to Seoul’ on Google.”

The photo in the Deadline article has since been corrected to actress Ji-Min Park.

Meanwhile, Return to Seoul tells the story of a 25-year-old named Freddie (Ji-Min Park), who finds herself in Seoul, her birthplace, by chance and experiences various events while searching for her biological parents.

For her performance in this film, Ji-Min Park, a second-generation Korean immigrant, garnered critical acclaim and received an invitation to the noteworthy gaze section of last year’s Cannes International Film Festival in France.

She subsequently won numerous awards, including the LA Critics Association’s New Generation Award, Boston Critics Association’s Work Award, Athens International Film Festival’s Work Award, and Asia Pacific Screen Awards’ Newcomer Acting Award and Director’s Award.
