Charles III congratulated the BLACKPINK members at the event with a handshake, expressing his desire to see their live performance. President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, who are on a state visit to the UK, also attended the award ceremony.

The MBE honors individuals who contribute significantly to British society or achieve outstanding results in politics, economics, culture and arts, science, and sports. The Beatles (1965) and Adele (2013) are among those who have received the same honor.

BLACKPINK gained recognition for raising global citizens’ awareness about the need to respond to climate change through their activities as ambassadors for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), which the UK chaired in 2021.

President Yoon said, “It’s impressive that BLACKPINK has worked for a global agenda like climate change as ambassadors for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals from 2021 to 2023 and for COP26. I hope that BLACKPINK, which plays a big role in promoting national interests, will continue their good work.”

BLACKPINK also made headlines by attending a state banquet hosted by the royal family at Buckingham Palace on the 22nd. At the time, Charles III praised BLACKPINK, who are serving as ambassadors for the UN Climate Change Conference, saying, “I applaud their role in delivering the message of environmental sustainability to people worldwide. I admire these global superstars for prioritizing such an important issue.”

Meanwhile, expectations for BLAKCPINK’s complete group activities are growing with their attendance at the state banquet and other events. Earlier, YG Entertainment commented on reports about agreeing on group activities with BLACKPINK, saying, “We are discussing, but we have not confirmed anything yet.”
