Mukbang YouTuber Tzuyang with a following of 9.29 million subscribers is currently facing criticism from Filipino subscribers.

On Jan 28, Tzuyang uploaded a video titled “Eating at a Vietnamese Restaurant Where You Have to Stand in Line, Beef Tripe Rice Noodle Soup Mukbang (feat. Nitong)”.

In the video, Tzuyang introduces Kim Jiyoung, saying, “I’m doing a mukbang with a subscriber. A Filipino woman who moved to Korea after getting married wanted to join, so I invited her.”

Guest Kim Jiyoung currently acts as the character Nitong in the ‘Human Theater of Nitong’ segment of ‘Gag Concert’ Season 2.

Kim Jiyoung maintained her Nitong character throughout the mukbang with Tzuyang, and near the end of the video, she changed her clothes and reintroduced herself.

Tzuyang and Kim Jiyoung faced much criticism after the video went live.

‘Human Theater of Nitong’ has been controversial for its racial discrimination issues. This is because, through the character Nitong, a Filipino daughter-in-law who moved to Korea, there are jokes that make fun of Filipinos.

The same criticism extended to Tzuyang, who invited Nitong to a Filipino food mukbang.

Comments on Tzuyang’s YouTube channel, which has many international fans, include: “I don’t understand why you filmed with someone pretending to be Filipino,” “This video is shocking,” and “It’s disappointing that you don’t realize that making fun of foreigners’ poor pronunciation is racial discrimination.”

Meanwhile, Tzuyang deleted the controversial video and posted an apology.

Tzuyang said, “I sincerely apologize to Filipino viewers and subscribers for causing concern. I didn’t think the content we produced could be hurtful to someone.”
