Switzerland, a neutral country, has joined the European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia, which include North Korean officials.

According to the Swiss Federal Government on the 3rd (local time), the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (WBF), the department in charge of economic sanctions, has been implementing the sanction proposal since the 1st, accepting the EU’s 13th sanctions against Russia. In its statement, the WBF said, “The additional sanctions targets are 106 individuals and 88 companies and organizations,” and “They are mainly companies and organizations involved in the production of missiles, drones, and anti-aircraft missile systems in the Russian defense industry.” It also explained, “It includes Russian companies and individuals supplying military equipment to North Korea.” Although it did not specify that certain North Koreans and organizations are included in the sanctions, there is a high possibility that Kang Sun Nam, the North Korean Defense Minister, and the North Korean Missile Bureau, which are newly included in the EU sanctions proposal, will also be subject to additional sanctions in Switzerland.
