Zoe is a tour guide in North Korea operating an account named “zoediscoversnk” with 40,000 followers.
Zoe shares information about North Korean restaurants, local residents, and natural landscapes through various social media accounts, including Instagram, YouTube, and X. Notably, Zoe has filmed herself interviewing North Korean soldiers and civilians in some posts and videos.
Some have raised suspicions that Zoe is promoting North Korea at the behest of the North Korean government, citing the restrictions on foreigners taking photos and using social media in North Korea. People who saw this online are expressing their rejection of Zoe’s account, which only highlights specific aspects of North Korea, with comments such as “What a propagandist” and “Oh, you like North Korea that much, then go and live there. This propaganda account should be banned”.
On the other hand, some focus on the posts or content itself rather than the relationship between Zoe and the North Korean government. These individuals have shown interest in the rarely revealed aspects of North Korea, expressing sentiments such as “How do you travel in North Korea?”, “Honestly, I want to visit North Korea someday,” and “North Korean food looks delicious.”
