North Korean leader Kim Jong Un effectively closed the door on potential negotiations with the incoming U.S. administration, stating that past talks with Washington have only reinforced his belief in America’s antagonistic stance towards North Korea.
The Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday that during his speech at the National Defence Development-2024 exhibition in Pyongyang, Kim declared, “We have already gone to every length in negotiations with the U.S., and what was certain from the outcome was … the unchanging invasive and hostile policy toward North Korea.”
Kim further asserted that the malicious ambitions of U.S. imperialism and its followers to eradicate our ideology, system, and people have not changed one bit. They are accelerating their reckless implementation in this century.
He emphasized, “Our Party and government will defend the DPRK, our glorious country, by dint of national defense by making all efforts to build up higher military and technical force and powerful military capabilities.”
“As long as the forces infringing upon our sovereignty exist, it is necessary to update various kinds of weapons and equipment steadily and to develop them into ultra-modern ones as required by the security environment of our state,” he added.
Kim emphasized that the DPRK realizes every day and every hour that firm capability and security guarantee for actively coping with enemies is the only way to defend their state’s position and development firmly.
