PhoneArena, an IT media outlet, reported on the 11th that “YouTube announced it is now testing the AI summarizer launched last year on long-form video with Shorts.”

According to the report, the AI summary feature is currently exclusive to YouTube mobile users and is undergoing testing with a specific user group. Its purpose is to categorize and organize the vast number of comments on short-form videos made in English into easily understandable sections by topic.

When reading comments on Shorts videos, users can now try a new feature on their mobile devices that allows them to sort comments by “Topics.” This option is available on some Shorts.

This is an optional feature for users who want to view comments by topic, allowing them to review numerous comments more systematically.

YouTube creators are also expected to benefit from this feature, which will help them quickly understand what topics their viewers are discussing and aid them in creating new content.

Creators also have the authority to delete individual comments under specific topics, allowing them to manage unnecessary or inappropriate comments.

The AI-generated topics are expected to be extracted only from public comments. Topics will not be generated from comments held for review, those containing blocked words, or ones from blocked users.

The release date for incorporating the AI summary feature into Shorts has not yet been announced. Furthermore, not all creators will immediately be able to use this feature after the update. An initial period will be needed to assess performance and user reaction. Therefore, during the initial stages, Short-form videos with many conversation topics will be prioritized, with plans to expand to all videos in the future.
