First Ladies’ Tea Canceled? Melania Declines Jill Biden’s White House Invite

As Trump’s family prepares for his return to the White House, First Lady Melania Trump is reported not to accompany her husband during his visit.

According to CNN and ABC News reports on Monday, Jill Biden extended an invitation for a customary meeting with Melania, a long-held tradition between the outgoing and incoming First Ladies. However, Melania cited a prior commitment to her recently published memoir, making it difficult for her to attend. As a result, the traditional meeting between the current and incoming First Ladies to transition duties at the White House is likely to be canceled.

When Donald Trump was elected president in 2016, Melania was invited by then-First Lady Michelle Obama for a meeting over tea. However, in 2020, no such meeting occurred after Trump refused to concede the election to Joe Biden.

Despite her initial response, one source noted that Melania’s attendance has not yet been finalized, though it remains unlikely. Therefore, President-elect Donald Trump’s visit to the White House, scheduled for Wednesday, may take place without her presence, further highlighting the complexities of this year’s presidential transition.
