Al Jazeera and other foreign media reported on Thursday that Israel and Hezbollah, a pro-Iranian armed faction in Lebanon, accused each other of violating a ceasefire just one day after it was agreed upon.

The Lebanese military claimed that Israel violated the ceasefire on Wednesday and Thursday. The Israeli military stated that suspected vehicles were detected near the southern border of Lebanon, prompting artillery fire and airstrikes targeting medium-range rocket storage facilities.

Israel and Hezbollah had agreed, under the mediation of the United States and France, to a 60-day ceasefire starting on Wednesday, during which the Israeli military would withdraw from southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese regular army and UN peacekeeping forces would be deployed along the border.

After the airstrikes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had instructed the Israeli army to prepare for war in case Hezbollah violates the ceasefire.

Al Jazeera reported that Israel is interpreting the ceasefire agreement arbitrarily to continue military operations, adding that the agreement does not grant Israel the right to enforce compliance with the ceasefire. It warned that this could lead to major or minor clashes in the future.
