Israel has launched a series of military operations in Syria since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have initiated airstrikes on military targets across Syria and deployed ground troops in and beyond the demilitarized buffer zone for the first time in five decades.

CNN reported on Tuesday that the IDF conducted approximately 480 airstrikes over the past forty-eight hours, targeting and destroying the majority of strategic weapons caches in Syria following the Assad regime’s downfall. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz commented on the operation’s success, stating that the Israeli Navy decimated the Syrian fleet overnight.

Of the 480 airstrikes carried out by the Israeli Air Force, roughly 350 were manned aircraft missions targeting airfields, air defense systems, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, fighter jets, tanks, and weapons manufacturing facilities. The remaining strikes supported ground operations aimed at weapons depots, military installations, and missile launch sites and platforms.

These actions are intended to prevent military assets and weapons from falling into the hands of extremist groups. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar explained that while the future cannot be predicted, it is essential to take all necessary measures to safeguard Israel’s security given the volatile situation.

IDF spokesperson Nadav Shoshani stated, “When we say a few additional points, we’re talking the area of the Area of Separation, or the area of the buffer zone in vicinity.” He firmly denied reports from some Arab media outlets suggesting that Israeli forces were advancing toward the Syrian capital, Damascus.
